Mike was nominated because he is a very caring and selfless person. Not only does he volunteer for Special Olympics but he continues to give his physical abilities and talents to a non-profit organization called MyTEAM Triumph by guiding disabled individuals through races. MyTEAM Triumph allows individuals with special needs (called Captains) to be pushed through a variety of endurance races by using special carts which are led and pushed by able-bodied individuals (called Angels). Mike has assisted special needs individuals to accomplish a variety of local 5K events, half and full marathons as well as Duathlons. He has also been part of the crew team for those who have set out to accomplish IronMan distances. Recently there has been a need for more training runs and involvement in Portage County and Mike has spearheaded additional training events for MyTEAM Triumph in Stevens Point. His selflessness has given those who aren't physically able the ability to feel speed and the wind on their faces.
Mike recently moved to Portage County in June of 2019.
Mike is a mechanic originally from Wausau, Wisconsin. He enjoys working on cars and participating in outdoor sports. He got involved with MyTEAM Triumph because the group is always in need of volunteer runners, affectionately known as Angels. The Wisconsin chapter of MyTEAM Triumph started in Green Bay in 2010. Currently there are seventeen teams around the state. Their mission is: "To enrich the well-being of individuals with diverse abilities and foster lifelong relationships through community athletics". Mike has started a team in Stevens Point. Training started in September and the "race is on" as they say. Mike enjoys running along the river and exploring the local parks. One of his favorite parts of being part of the organization is helping the Captains, walk across the finish line.

Mike's Favorites:
Song: He enjoys 80-90's rock. He also likes when he's running as an Angel during practices and races because the Captains get to DJ from their electronic devices.
Food: All fruit and Steak (but, he joked during the interview- not together)
Author: John Wooden
Quote: "Try anything once"
What make you happy?
The sun and spending time outside
Where are you headed?
He's looking forward to getting married and he's very optimistic about the future.
Who is your hero?
His parents and grandparents. His parents because they got a divorce and taught him that you can overcome a bad situation. They taught him that forgiveness is key and life is too short. He also mentioned his grandparents because they were always there for him and were great role models and life teachers.
What can people in the community learn for you?
Have an open heart. Be friendly and courteous to all.
