Bob was nominated as a hidden hero in our community for his number of years of volunteering at the Stevens Point Health Services. He goes out of his way to make the residents' days better. Taking his time, Bob likes to really get to know the residents and their families. Some of the activities Bob does at the nursing home include playing bingo, socials, games, fishing, walks outside and visiting.
Born and raised in Junction City Bob moved to Plover in 1978 and has been a part of our community ever since.
When asked why he decided to volunteer his time, he explained when his folks were in the assisted living program he noticed a lot of things that he could help with. He also noticed that some of the senior citizens didn't receive any visitors. His heart went out to these people and he made it his goal to brighten their day.
Bob has been volunteering his time at the Stevens Point Care Center since 2008. He spends about two to three hours per week helping out with activities such as field trips, card games, bingo, rummage sales and setting up for polka bands and church. He has also donated several tote boxes of books to their Care Center library.
Bob's favorite activity is taking the seniors fishing on the Wisconsin River. He provides all the fishing equipment, he will cast the line out, real it in, and let the participants take a picture with the fish.
People in the community can learn from Bob that is it never hurts to go out of your way to be nice.
