Sister Rosella was nominated for her volunteer work at the Stevens Point Health Services for almost a decade. Residents enjoy her morning visits and her morning get togethers; for some it is the highlight of their day. Sister goes out of her way to make each and everyone of them feel special. During the lock down, due to Covid, Sister faithfully personalized cards every week. Many have kept their cards to hang in their rooms. Sister not only is a support for the residents but also the staff and residents' families.
Having been born and raised in Plover Wisconsin, Sister Rosella has been able to create a strong tie with the community. When Sister became a nun it was her goal to touch one life and make a difference, she say's it sounds selfish but touching one life is never enough. Living in Portage County and interacting with local people/businesses has help grow her love for this area, and says she couldn't see herself living anywhere else.
She got involved with the Stevens Point Health Services when her father was a resident. For about twenty plus years now Sister has been volunteering, but she says volunteering sounds too much like work and what she does is not work. Visiting the residents has touched her life in a very special way and it keeps her coming back Monday though Friday a little before 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The residents have become part of her family, but she was unable to visit during the pandemic. To help out instead she made cards for the residents, and would personalized them by taking photos of their favorite things and gluing them on the cards. Sister does not just visit the Stevens Point residents, but travels to different facilities throughout Central Wisconsin.
One the hardest things to overcome while volunteering with the residents is when they pass away, but she says "we know they are going to a better place."
The community can learn from Sister Rosella-
"Small acts of kindness"- They're words to live by. Open a door, pick up garbage, just reach out and help out.

Waldherr Mary - Sister is one of the most special ladies I know and I am so proud to call her my Friend. I have worked at Stevens Point Health Center for many years and when the time came that I had to admit that I needed help looking after my Mother, my Family and I had her join the facility. Sister's father was also a resident on the same floor as my Mother and that is how I learned of the wonderful warm heart that did not just belong to her own Father, but of all families Mother's and Fathers that lived in our facility! She worried about my Mother's feelings as I did...always stopped by my Mother's room to check and make sure her stress levels were in control. I will love her for that daily visit for the rest of my time on this earth Seeing that beautiful smile on Sister's face and feel the warmth of her heart has made me a better person...I have learned to be more of a compassionate person from her. CONGRATULATIONS SISTER ROSELLA ❤ You definatly deserve the recognition!
