Edward Losinski was nominated as a hidden hero by his daughter, Betty, and granddaughter, Kelly. He passed away at the age of 94 on November 23, 2019 while surrounded by his loving family. Edward was highly involved in the Portage County community and deserves to be recognized for his dedication to help others.
Edward was born in the town of Dewy on May 4, 1925. He accomplished many things and was married to his loving wife, Theresa, for 74 years. He very much loved his wife, who is still alive to this day. He also loved to learn new things and liked to be of service to others.
Edward worked for 35 years at the Consolidated Papers Wisconsin River Division Pulp Mill and retired in 1987. He also operated a small family farm, was an avid recreational hunter, fisherman, gardener, camper, hiker, bicyclist, beekeeper, and amateur dog-trainer. He traveled extensively and was always curious about science, the space program, politics and current events. During his retirement he volunteered at the Operation Bootstrap and the American Red Cross - including months of service in Miami, Florida following hurricane Andrew in 1992.
Edwards lifetime of public service toward the Portage County community included township chairman, Portage County Board of Supervisors member, chairman of the Joint County-City Building Committee for the courthouse of Portage County Home, acting zoning administrator, vice-chairman of the Central Wisconsin Airport which opened in 1969 and he helped rededicate in 2016, chair of the Portage County Unit of the Wisconsin Towns Association, and volunteer firefighter and emergency fire warden for the State of Wisconsin.
Betty and Kelly emphasized that nothing brought more joy to Edward then spending time with his family and learning about their lives and accomplishments. Kelly's favorite memory with her grandfather was walking in the woods through Cave Point Park in Door County, Wisconsin. As for Betty, her favorite and last memory was holding her fathers hand while he passed away.
We would like to remember Edward for all he did for this community and may he rest in peace.
