Wendy and Jim moved to Stevens Point from Rhinelander in 2010. Their 4 kids were all past high school age, and it was a good time for a change.
Jim is an independent Wealth Management Advisor and Retirement Income Certified Professional, (RICP®), and they moved so that Jim could join the firm of Shulfer and Associates Wealth Management LLC.
During their years in Rhinelander, while the kids were in school, they spent every year either on a school board, parish council, coaching, tutoring, working with class projects or hosting teams of students competing for Academic Decathlon, so it was natural to look for ways to be a part of the community in their new hometown.
Shortly after the move they helped with a few projects at the local Boys and Girls Club - their first chance to participate in community involvement. From there they took an interest in two areas: Jim became a board member on the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin, serving for 9 years; his last year as board president.
Starting in their third year as Stevens Point residents, the Robinsons assumed the role of host parents for two students from France and one from Thailand. This turned out to be a learning experience and a cultural education for everyone and made the world a little smaller. One “daughter” has become part of the family, coming back from France to visit 3 times since her first stay.
Wendy began what has been a strong, lasting connection with Stevens Point Health Services when her mother Doris took residence there in 2016. Wendy was almost a daily visitor and an active contributor during activities and outings, including holding cookie paint sessions for the residents. Doris passed away in December of 2020 at age 95, but Wendy continues to offer her services, volunteering at activities and events, making a connection and a difference with many lives. Her compassion and respect for the residents is an example of the value we should hold for our elders. They have done much in their lives to contribute and have a wealth of knowledge to share if someone listens. Wendy listens.
For the past 5 years Wendy has also volunteered to be on the Scholarship Committee for the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin, reviewing hundreds of worthy applicants for scholarship awards.
Wendy and Jim look forward to the years ahead, both travelling to see family and friends and spending time with DIY projects at home. They feel fortunate to be part of the Portage County family.
