Jerry was nominated because he is the Community Outreach Coordinator and Child Psychologist for the Stevens Point School District. He has worked in the school district for over 30 years serving students and their families. He also directs the education program at the Detention Center for Youth, runs a popular event called 'Cuts For Kids' offering free hair cuts for children and many other resources at the event. He has his hands and heart in many many more areas within our community as he helps people who struggle with homelessness, mental health, and AODA issues. He also created Social Night for students with social needs and Night School at SPASH.
He is nominated because even though these are jobs, hobbies and passions for him, he really goes more then the extra mile for families in need and it's all out of honesty and his heart. He moves families, motivates them, comes anytime of day or night, answers every phone call and is as involved as you want him to be. He's real, resourceful and will advocate for your family and children. Jerry is an angel in our community. Our community is so fortunate to have him. Many out there may not even know him or what he offers that they may need! He needs to be recognized, his story shared and that's why he was nominated, because he is an amazing person of Portage County!
Jerry is originally from Cudahy Wisconsin. He has lived in Portage County for about 30 years.
He works for the Stevens Point School District as a school psychologist. He also is responsible for the student family outreach program. Jerry is one of five siblings, he was inspired to become a psychologist because of his brother Dave. Dave had disabilities and Jerry considers him to be his hero. Dave has passed away, but Jerry's parents instilled in him the idea of service to community.
Jerry coordinates many programs and projects, one of them is Mid-State Technical College Cosmetology students will share their hair-cutting skills with the community with free haircuts and a lot of fun at the College’s Cuts for Kids event.
